This paper reports an experimental study on machining of one type of dental ceramics (macor) with rotary ultrasonic machining (RUM). However, their high machining costs lead to limited applications. The diamond tool impacts the material with high contact speed, reducing cutting force and producing ultra-fine finishes three to five times faster than conventional machining. Rotary ultrasonic machining combines high speed spindle rotation with high frequency vertical vibration of the cutting tool.
